Bowel Cancer Screening Test (FIT)
This simple stool test looks for tiny traces of blood in the bowel that may not be visible to the eye. It is commonly used as a screening test for bowel cancer and other bowel conditions.
At Huxley, we offer a two-sample FIT test to improve sensitivity and reduce the chance of a false-negative result. You will collect two small samples at home on separate days and return them to the laboratory for analysis.
The test is quick, discreet and does not require a doctor’s appointment.
Who is this test suitable for?
This screening test may be appropriate if you:
Would like to screen for bowel cancer
Have no bowel symptoms but want reassurance
Prefer a simple, non-invasive first step before considering colonoscopy
How it works
Order the test online
Collect your sample kit from our partner laboratory
Take two small stool samples at home using the kit provided
Return the samples to the lab for analysis
Results are usually available within 7 working days.
What happens if the test is positive?
A positive FIT test does not necessarily mean cancer. Blood in the stool can occur for many reasons, including haemorrhoids, anal fissures, or inflammation.
If blood is detected, our doctor will contact you to discuss the result and advise on the next steps. This usually involves further investigation, such as colonoscopy, which we can help you arrange.
Important
This test is intended for screening in people without significant symptoms.
If you have symptoms such as:
A change in bowel habit (e.g. going to the toilet more often than usual, or a change in the consistency of your stools)
unexplained weight loss
ongoing abdominal pain
visible blood in the stool
please book a medical consultation rather than ordering this test.
